PostHeaderIcon A Pet is Perfect If You Work at Home

If your job requires you to work at home, you are a terrific candidate for a pet. While you don’t want to become a crazy cat lady or that weird guy in 7A who talks only to his dog, having a pet is a wonderful way to break up a day. And, yes, gives you something to talk to or at least take care of other than yourself. Working at home has many wonderful benefits, but some people find the isolation difficult to take.

A pet not only keeps you company, but forces you to take breaks to care for your animal. This is especially true if you don’t have children or a spouse and face long days with nothing in front of you but a computer. Especially for people whose jobs require little person-to-person interaction, it’s easy to get completely separated from the real world. If your home job allows you to take quick breaks, you might be a puppy’s favorite owner of choice. Puppies require training and interaction, which can help make your day a bit brighter. They force to leave your desk because you have to take the pooch outside to do their business. And you can easily throw a toy in between writing e-mails.

Many people who work outside the home buy puppies then crate them for the day while they’re gone. Not much fun for Spot. When you work from home, you can set a timer and take the little guy out on a regular basis making house training a breeze.

If your job requires a lot of phone work that does not allow you to leave your office at will, another kind of pet that requires less interaction might work. Cats are pretty self-sufficient and require no training.
They do like to lay on top of keyboards when you’re trying to type, but you’ll find a way to get around that small annoyance.

Pick your pet carefully and base your selection on the amount of time you can realistically spend with it. Birds can be noisy (something to keep in mind if you do phone work) but they can also be terrific companions. Dogs require much more time and effort than other pets, but your pal is always there when you need to talk to someone about a difficult client. And a cat sitting on your lap as you type away is calming and comforting. And if you just want something to look at during the day other than your computer screen, you can always get a fish. You don’t have to clean their poop or take them for walks. But they can’t lick your face, either.

PostHeaderIcon How to Buy a Computer For Your Stay-At-Home Job

Home computers are allowing people to have jobs at home that didn’t exist all that long ago. If you are considering upgrading your home computer or buying one to take advantage of these new opportunities, you can be overwhelmed by the choices now available.

Buying a computer is perhaps one of the most important purchases when you work from home because it is your job. That’s why having a reliable computer is so vital, because without it, you’re out for the count.

Here are some things to look for when buying your computer:

What features do you need? If you’re buying a PC, you should probably get a computer with at least 1 GB (gigabyte) of memory. That amount will safely allow you to use any Vista application. Unless your work requires graphic design, you can opt for a basic computer that has less graphics abilities, thus saving you money. Do you plan to use your computer for programs other than what you need for work? Many of today’s PC games require a large hard drive, good graphics cards, and are just more fun to play if you have a large, flat-screen monitor—all of which add to the cost of your PC.

Laptop or PC? If you only have enough money in your budget for one or the other, think about how, when, and where you’ll be working most of the time. Laptops tend to be more expensive than PCs, but the convenience of being able to work anywhere is a must for some. It comes down to a personal choice and your budget. Keep in mind that laptops are more expensive and more difficult to upgrade than PCs.

How much do you have to spend? Unless you require a large amount of hard drive or high-end graphics and photo programs, you can buy a PC that will probably fit your needs for a little more than $500. Obviously, the more money you spend, the more capacity and programs the computer comes with.

Is it a good idea to buy a used computer? Probably not. As a consumer, you have absolutely no recourse if something goes wrong. It’s probably not under warranty, you don’t know if something is wrong with it, and it could end up costing you more money in the long run. And there is no guarantee that what you’re buying isn’t stolen. Buying a refurbished computer from a reputable company is a better option and can save you up to $500. Some refurbished computers come with a warranty, which can give you peace of mind.

PostHeaderIcon Cutting Costs In Hard Times

We’re all experiencing it, living below our means to get by each day trying to support a family. Making cut backs in what we could consider a luxury in these time can be difficult; and there will be times we may have to pass on the party we traditionally have every year, or streamline the extra-curricular activities our children are involved in. It can be heartbreaking to do, but there are ways to cut down with possibility of having money left over to do family oriented things. All is not lost, even in painful economic times.

Try your hand at easy gardening. There are so many advantages to growing your own food including saving hundreds on your grocery bill each month. A normal family of 4 could spend an estimated $200 dollars on food every week, just to feed ever growing children 3 meals a day. Seems a bit steep don’t you think? Just by setting up a small 5 foot by 5 foot garden with a variety of veggies and fruits you could save up at least $100 a month. There are some plants that don’t take a lot of time to keep and once they are planted can grow untouched for the whole season. You can freeze most vegetables and fruit to save during the year, this will also help save throughout the winter.

Cut down your phone bills by losing all the fun “bells and whistles”. If you can, try doing most of your business calls via cell phone and blue tooth. You can shut off that extra land line and save money every month. You can also get rid of extras such as voicemail services and opt for a cheaper alternative such as a regular phone with an answering machine. Good thing about cell phones these days is that you can get USB charger that can plug right into your computer. This saves time of finding plugs and leaving chargers in the wall which can actually raise your electric bill.

Taking off some unnecessary cable charges. I have heard of some folks getting rid of their cable bill to thwart paying high charges. I recommend do what’s right for you. You could just get a basic package for cable and watch anything else online. There are websites like Hulu.com that have episodes of TV shows from popular channels right there to view online and the cost, free for right now. This could also get you back into some hobbies, pick up a book now and then and could change your life in many ways. TV will always be there when you can get back the financial wiggle room you used to have.

Shop when you need to, not when you want to. In the world, we are a largely consumer based society. Even with government money troubles some people can afford to splurge a little, but the majority of people need to make more careful and thoughtful decisions. When your shopping make sure you have a full stomach and a specific list. This can cut down on impulse shopping and over spending. If your using a debit card, only put so much on the card to stop from buying what you may not need. If your shopping online, search around for the best price on an item. All these things can stop you from making unneeded purchases and help you save money for future needs.

PostHeaderIcon Making the switch to remote workers, freelancers and independent contractors

According to the US Department of  Labor Force Statistics  from the Current Population Survey the Employment Situation Nation Wide as of April 03, 2009  is:

“Nonfarm payroll employment continued to decline sharply in March (-663,000), and the unemployment rate rose from 8.1 to 8.5 percent. Payroll employment has decreased by 3.3 million over the past 5 months. In March, job losses were large and widespread across the major industry sectors.”

This could explain why more and more people are making the switch to remote workers, freelancers and work at home independent contractors.

Times are tough due to the recession; jobs are becoming more of a luxury. Many large corporations such as office supply stores and catalog/department stores have taken the leap. Why would this make a difference to companies in the long run?
The answer may surprise you.

Many leading national companies have stated that the reason for moving many of their jobs off  location is to increase productivity.   It’s true that when most people wake up in the morning and get ready for work; they actually dread the day ahead of them. From the morning commute to the constant buzzing of ringing telephones, computers, fax machines and chatter; it’s easy to see why we all need a vacation.

This news really shouldn’t be a surprise, considering these days you can do everything from buying your groceries to buying a house all from the comfort of your computer. Telecommuting will most likely grow into the world’s new workforce, overtaking that traditional office space. Consider it this way; you can expand your workforce by letting them stay at home and paying them to do work only for certain hours. This may sound like a turn off to the employee but the reality of this allows them to take up outside projects, because they can do it all from their own home office. This is a great way to maximize your time and pick up a range of extra income that may come in handy later on.

The more common working from home becomes, the faster it is to build your online profile. It’s safer and faster to connect with anyone, anywhere in the world, thus building up relations to other businesses across different countries. There is new technology that allows you to meet with clients over the internet so you not only save on business expenses, but you can meet with anyone at any time without leaving your chair.

I think the forward point here is that more people should be educated and aware of the possibilities waiting for them online. It takes a well running computer, determination to keep working, and dedication to get your projects done on time. With these key things anyone can really get started working from home right away. There are great responsibilities to being your own boss but the rewards are better than anything you could imagine.

PostHeaderIcon Laptops are your best friend!

I have been scouring the internet again, in one of my techie rampages, looking for new and very useable items to make my life easier working at home. Yes I know working at home is a bit easier than having to drive to your job but at the same time, you have a newer set of challenges to contend with. One of mine was keeping myself organized and moblie no matter where I work. That’s right; since I work at home I chose to purchase a laptop for the mobility and ease of work.

I recommend if you plan to purchase a new computer for a job first make sure if they have a rule about what type of computer and operating system that you follow that, otherwise you may make an expensive mistake. I chose a reliable laptop that is has a 17 inch screen, otherwise I may be squinting trying to read things. The one I just purchased is brand new, my 3 year old laptop needs some fixing so for some quick advice, set some emergency money aside, or even a credit card from a dependable computer store for these such occasions.

Now, when you get a laptop it comes standard with the finger mouse pad, I’m not sure about all of you but my hands hurt after using that tiny thing all day.  I went and purchased a USB 5 button mouse with a roll wheel. I also saved up to purchase a wireless keyboard that comes with a wireless mouse. Almost all of my items that I have purchased are the Logitech™ because I trust with the inexpensive price I will still get good value, and I have. I have a pair of headphones that have lasted me over a year, the mouse and number pad I have are the same age. If I were to estimate the amount of money I have spent on these items that help make my job easier, I would say a little over 100 dollars. Now that’s not bad at all, the wireless keyboard and mouse were 40 plus shipping, that’s a fantastic price wouldn’t you say?

The formal reason for these things; there is nothing more calming and beautiful then being able to move your computer outside to a table, sit under the umbrella with a refreshing cup of tea and type away. Granted were I am at right now it’s warm enough to open the windows but not sit outside just yet. Regardless I still have my wireless keyboard that allows me to sit comfortably in my chair and type to my heart’s content without having to reach over and use the laptop keyboard.

Laptops are also great for vacation, now hear me out! You want to go on a retreat and you have worked very hard to gather the money up to do so. It could be a family vacation or a solo hideaway vacation to the mountains, but you just can’t afford to miss some projects and communications with clients, take your work with you. This way when the fun is all over for the day, you can go to your laptop and check your emails to make sure your still on top of your game. Check the place you’re staying at to make sure they have Wi-Fi. Most places, even a few in the mountains I have frequented, have upgraded to Wi-Fi services to accommodate for the ever evolving technology age (now we just have to wait for the cell phone companies to catch up!).

The reality of the situation is when you work at home you can be anywhere as long as you can work. Be it on the beach, on a cabin porch in the middle of the mountains or even in your basement doing laundry. But chose your computer wisely, a well stocked model that has plenty of memory and a great operating system is more than alright. I hope this helps anyone who has chosen to work at home for themselves .

PostHeaderIcon How to market yourself offline

How to market yourself offline

Most work at home professionals over look the fact that they can market their services offline as well as on the internet. Sure online is the most effective way to get the word out there about your talents and services, but why is it you cannot do the same offline? Well you may be over looking another source of income if you don’t market at all offline. Here are some ideas that are left out of the online marketing network.

Local sustainable business from people you can pitch to face to face. You have the personal contact with someone that you just can’t get over the internet with possible clients. There is nothing more personal than the contact of being in the same room with your client. You can offer them more such as a brochure, portfolio and presentation copy right there. This would depend on the driving distance and how populated your area is but even if you have just an online only business, you can benefit very well from this. Offer specials if they come to your office and provide them with great service including a coffee/hot water machine. Remember these items can be written off at the end of the year.

Try advertising in your local paper and watch your local numbers grow. It doesn’t have to be large or flashy. It should describe your business and what you can do offline and online for the client. Offer a toll free line for them to call 24/7. If you have your own business you should have a phone line, whether it be a cell phone, landline or VOIP, it should have a messaging service that can take long detail messages. In the message make sure you leave your website and email address in the message just in case the client wants to get a hold of you right away.

Create a one of a kind flyer and business cards that can be distributed at local gas stations, bars, restaurants, malls and colleges. There are plenty of places for people to look at, why not have a flyer up with your website and pull tabs at the bottom? Create unique business cards that offer your website, phone number and name and put them in a little stand were people can take one. You ever notice when someone is waiting for the cashier to ring them up their eyes wander? This is a good move for anyone of any business. Make sure to keep a good reputation with anywhere you hang up your flyers and leave your cards. A simple suggestion is buy a map and place markers were you have your postings for when you need to update information.

These are just a few things you can do to get your name out there. Many of them are low cost and are considered business expenses. PostHeaderIcon The stress of having a job you would rather do without

Even in these times, there are a few people out there who would rather be unemployed than work where they do now.  Starting your day dreading going to work and dealing with the stress of being there is no way to work or even live. There are either two choices you can make, quit or what I like to call “grin and bear it.” I know when I used to work out of the house I considered them your average mindless jobs. Go to work, come home and do it all over again tomorrow. There were a few jobs I loathed doing including pumping gas, working as a saleswoman at a retail store and better yet my most loathed, working unloading trucks and merchandise during the holiday seasons.

At the time I didn’t know a rule I should have lived by; never leave or jeopardize your current job if you do not already have a back up.  This is a rule my mom taught me at my first job working at a gas station. I stayed with the company going on a year, before politics took over and I was let go (a story for another time). Needless to say I had to fight tooth and nail for unemployment benefits, which I did gain, but after the fact it was tougher finding employment with each day that passed. It took me six months of searching and exhausting my funds by driving for applications but eventually I found a job in retail. The moral of this story; you may hate your job, but don’t plan on leaving unless you have another job to go to.

Keeping this rule of thumb in mind is important. If you want a change of career and feel you can no longer be at your current job, refresh your resume and begin searching for something else. But even if the job you’re at is intolerable, don’t crumble under the pressure to run out of the front doors screaming “I’m free!” Instead take a deep breath, tell yourself you can’t wait for that new job and stick to your guns. Now is not the time to treat any employment as replaceable, considering the current state of the market.  Everyone, even now, has the ability to control their own career future but by acting hastily by leaving the job that makes your miserable, could yield a harder financial future.

Take that as a lesson learned by someone who has acted impulsive before. Job hunt, selling your services online as a freelancer and being self employed are more examples of what you can do to get out of that job you so longingly need to get away from. Take the initiative to get yourself back out there, be willing to change your job, beef up your resume and take career risks. Don’t worry about jobs that say you need a degree, take that chance and apply for them anyway.

Basically the moral of the story, keep whatever employment you have until you have the stability in securing another job. I am grateful for being given the chance to work at home and know that when you start to work at home the doors will open up for you. You can do as many projects as you can handle and that is one of the best feelings in the world, to accomplish working for yourself. PostHeaderIcon Headed back to work after retirement, a choice many are making

Being retired in this economy has been looked at as a luxury. This is a sad yet true fact, as the economy struggles to recover, we have to look at why so many retirees are sent back to work. Thousands have lost medical coverage, their 401k and other retirement benefits due to banks needing to be bailed out and other big corporations struggling.

Being retired is something young people like me are looking forward to experiencing once we reach that golden age. Since the job market has crumbled, there are more people out there looking for employment, especially in the age range of 55-65. In my experience, with family members in the age of retirement, it’s an everyday hardship to find a job let alone keep it. Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for families to sit on pins every day, wondering if they will leave work with their job intact. Even though this is alarming to everyone, we have to face the fact there may be a career change ahead.  Instead of worrying, let me give you baby boomers a few tips.

Coming out of retirement can be a bit wavering, but know that there are options for you out there regardless of your age or experience.  As a person in my 20’s, I know I have the knowledge to extend my computer experience to my parents who otherwise may have little to no computer experience.  But as an example my mother went to night courses to give herself certification in computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Excel. These courses can be offered by a local school for anyone over the age of 18 (depending on your area school bulletins), and can run all year long. Most night school programs run about 5 weeks and give certification upon passing or completion of the required tasks. The sooner you start taking classes, the faster you can rewrite your resume to include and boost your reputation having new skills for new jobs.

Involve yourself in the change of the information age. It may be a bit frustrating to learn something new and keep up with the rapid evolution of technology, but once you get into the world of clicking and searching, you have covered the basics.  Don’t be afraid to try new things and take a chance. Because many baby boomers have worked very hard in their lives, means they are tried and true workers. I have never seen a retired person lock up in their house never to do anything again. Even more so I have seen an a rise in business owners being retirees and working out of their home.

As a matter of fact, according to BabyBoomer-Magazine.com Baby Boomers should first figure out how much money we’ll need to launch and operate our online business for six months to a year.” This is a great strategy for anyone, but more so for men and women in the baby boomer generation.

We have all the information on how to succeed in your own home based business for anyone of any age. At Jobs Based from Home we have the only book you will ever need!

PostHeaderIcon Office security; why everyone should be confident instead of concerned.

Most people who know the basics of computer and home security understand that there needs to be some kind of security to protect yourself from just about any situation.  Here I wanted to address many of these safety concerns for people who may not know the value of a little investment that can take you a long way.

First thing you should do is when you set up your computer make sure you have updates turned on and a good firewall.  Chances are you have an anti-virus program as well, make sure you have system restore check points. This will come in handy if your computer has a problem and needs to be rebooted to an earlier date. I cannot stress how important this is considering my computer went dead in the first week of March! I had to quickly recover and get onto my backup PC. It was horrible to find out that at 6am on a Thursday I may have lost all of my hard work to a memory chip error.

Secondly, this goes with the first, make sure you have some extra cash to buy a backup external hard drive. Now this will seem a bit extreme but let me explain. When my laptop was acting a bit funny I ran and grabbed my external hard drive and backed up the whole computer. These days the external drives offer protection from accidently downloading a virus so check for that when purchasing one. Always make sure to have you hard drive in a close location or connected to your computer at all times. Now having a portable USB flash drive is the equivalent for small saves like writing a project and backing it up automatically.  Make sure if you have either, that they are both password protected. You don’t want someone to get a hold of your flash drive with all your information do you?

Third, password protect everything including an unshared computer. Ever notice if you work off a laptop most places (including your home) have a wireless router that is password protected? This is to insure someone cannot access any information you may be keeping in your computer. Also, if even if your computer is not a household shared computer, always remember to lock it when you walk away from it. Every computer in your house should have a password that at startup should prompt you for a profile specific log in.  This is not silly or unneeded. This is to keep prying eyes out of your work. Every company requires this, it did when I worked with HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act) files and it is a good practice for you too.  You wouldn’t want a client seeing things that is for your eyes only; it should go without saying you wouldn’t want your children to either. When you walk away, simply follow the instructions for your computer on how to lock it. Your files will be there when you get back, safe and sound.

Fourth, this is a big option that I have gone with, have a safe.  This could be a file safe (with a standard lock on the front locking all drawers) or a fireproof safe to keep business items from being damaged by water and fire in the case of an emergency.  You should have this separate from personal items (unless you’re conserving cash or space then using it for both is fine). Having a small safe with your flash drives, external hard drives and anything else that may be of high security to you would be a good tool to keep in mind. In the horrible circumstance of a fire or flood, your items will be safe guarded from these events, this is why I recommend anyone to have flash drives and external HDD, because who would put their computer tower in a safe every night? You can put smaller portable drives for safe keeping, files that are precious to your business and family (taxes, ID’s, passwords, emergency cash) and anything extra you will need later on.

Lastly; how to keep your entire office safe with other security methods. There have been considerable advances in the door lock, window lock and all around security for your home. You can upgrade personal security to having an in-home alarm installed. Grab extra features such as fire alarm alerts, glass breaking alerts, carbon monoxide alarms etc. There are now newer door handles that are not just locking features, but have electronic number pads, bolt key alternatives, even fingerprinting locks. Windows can have film applied to make them near bullet/shatterproof, tinted to keep out prying eyes and made into secret fire windows. Don’t be afraid to even install cameras that record to a secure DVR recorder. Sound paranoid? Maybe. But you will be protected none the less. Taking these extra steps can keep you safer from burglary, even high wind damage (I live in the Northeast of the US were high wind damage causes enough windows to break from flying debris).

In conclusion , I don’t want to make anyone paranoid that bad things will happen if they don’t have these options.  I want to make you aware of safeguards that are out there for anyone concerned with office protection. There are so many advances in technology today that options are endless in what you can afford to give yourself piece of mind. As always, make sure you do your research before you buy anything, taking the extra time never hurts.

PostHeaderIcon Moms, what to do when at home with the kids and your trying to work!

I wanted to get this one out and about for all the hard working stay at home moms and work at home moms.  You tend to be the most stressed out people in today’s society and it’s no wonder why. The kids, the grocery duty, the household chores and not to mention everything in between, have you in a tailspin of directions at once. In my honest opinion, you need a system to handle all of these things without losing your sanity in the process. You might have a schedule, but does it cover everything, including free time and how to get more of it?

So you wake up in the morning, prepare your coffee, breakfast for the kids, and look at the list of things you have to do today. You can feel that rising ache of your energy being stripped away and you haven’t even started anything yet! You may have to work that day too, but there is so much to do just thinking about it is making you worry.  If this has happened, or is happening; take a step back and a nice long deep breath. When you let that breath out remember, you can do anything you want you just have to make it happen. Many times this could lead moms to giving up and sending their kids to daycare so they can get finished with what they need to do. Let me give you alternatives.

To keep those kids busy, give them something during the day they like to do. If you have an older child, around the age of 10 or so, give them some responsibility. A friend of mine lets her now 12 year old son help with the gardening, taking care of his now 2 year old brother (feeding him snacks and helping change diapers) and lets him take care of helping clean around the house. Because of this he has a self confidence that shines in everything he does. He also happens to help me with things without asking, and for that I give him praise in the form of a little tip (cookies and sometimes money depending on what he helps with). If you have small children, please I cannot stress this enough, whatever you do don’t sit them in front of the TV all day. I know I have done it before but the outcome may be hard to break them from. I will use my nephew in this case, he is only 3. I help watch him when my brother goes to school and sister in law is working. Because of the unorganized behavior we all use to have, he now can’t turn away from the TV for fear he may miss his favorite show. Now we all have been slowly working to correct this, but if you don’t he may not want to go outside and become a couch potato! Honestly he can wait until he’s on his own to do that!

What I have seen works fantastic is, if you have little ones that are normally loud, give them a project to do. This works great with coloring books. Don’t cringe it’s alright, thanks to the new technology out there we now have markers that only draw on the paper that comes in the package. How great is that? Instead of an unruly child trying to draw on that fresh painted wall, it will only color on paper.  You may even be able to get them a small desk like mommy has and they can pretend to work just like you.  Better yet, if you’re trying to save a buck, Google free coloring pages and you get a bank of great ideas!

Go out and get some fun items from the dollar store or craft store that they can make into something for you. Nothing compares to the feeling of your kids making something special just their mommy. I keep all the special things from kids in my life on the fridge.  Everything they pass by they tell me they made it. I love the spark of creativity in children, it helps mold them for the future and give them skills needed for the rest of their lives.

When you get that free time with the kids, after or before work, teach them how to grow something.  My nephew helped me plant a few seeds this year and he loves it. But isn’t that true of most boys, they love getting dirty? This can be a part of the new found green movement that has been happening in the world. It shows them responsibility and how to take care of something living. Be aware that if they like watching how a plant grows, they may want to move up to little critters!

I think the point here is, many of these things you can do with your children and they will in turn bring you a sense of relief from the crying, screaming and other things that happen when you have children. They have worked for me when I am working at home, they just may work for you. If you want to know more about working from home, stop by our front page of Jobs Based From Home. PostHeaderIcon Best time to start a business is now!

While many are concerned with how to pay their bills and were their next paycheck will come from, there are a fair few deeply considering starting their own home based business. Sure as the old saying goes “It takes money to make money” is true; it may take less money than you think. Depending on what type of business you’re seeking to start, the start up costs can be the best investment on your part.

Starting a business can be scary in itself, but with the right help it can be a rewarding way to earn a living.  You could start up a small company and offer products for a particular niche (electronics, video games, unique clothing etc.)Or better yet, offer your services for a range of fees depending on what they are. I can use myself as an example.  Let’s say I offer my writing skills to the highest bidder for another blog.  In this case I promote my skills by putting together a professional portfolio of my work. I can take the best blog posts, press releases and articles in one nice file and allow possible clients to see my work in one convenient place.  This is a virtually free process anyone can do to make some extra cash.

Another great way to make a living is by being a party planner.  These days this is not just for weddings or special occasions. Anything can be an event, from selling cosmetic products to getting a birthday party together for a friend or family member. With these events under your belt, you could have them write fantastic testimonials about your services for future advertisements. This may cost you some start up money, but again it will take effort and some extra cash to get you moving. This may include advertisements in a local paper or flyers, but you can find good bargains these days with well known office supply stores.

Either way you put it, it’s about being confident in your business venture. Researching and taking notes about how you can achieve your goals is a great way to start. Now these things will not happen overnight and take a lot of effort on your part to get started. There is no business, to this day, that has not had to climb over walls and swim an ocean to get where they are today. I cannot stress enough the dedication it takes to work for yourself, unsupervised and most likely alone.  It’s a disciplined mind and strong work ethic for anyone to take the step in opening their own business. You will have a lot of questions and concerns before you take that step so I have one more piece of advice for you.

Here at Jobs Based From Home we have a forum dedicated to answering questions with the help of a handful of professionals that started at the beginning and now work for a living helping others realize their goals of being their own boss.  The eBook that we provide to everyone is the brain child of work at home professions and business owners, who came together to write for the common purpose of helping others achieve goals they set for themselves. If you’re interested in working for yourself or starting your own business, come to JobsBasedFromHome.net and get all of your questions answered with our eBook and database that has everything you need to get started. PostHeaderIcon Techniques on keeping yourself headed toward your career goals; a personal reflection

Despite the recent negative news media saying were in for a bad year, more people have decided to stop and focus on the most important thing in their life, themselves.  It’s estimated that this year there will be a huge increase in college enrollment for the ages of 25-55 online alone. Now that college and business courses are offered online, convenience is as easy as one click away.  Even better, you can do what I did.

Currently I am enrolled in college as a fulltime student online and yes, I work from home fulltime.  What this does for me is immensely help me out in every aspect of my life.  I wake up in the morning, come down from my room in my pajamas, and make breakfast with some coffee. Turn on the computer, fetch my dog from his kennel and I’m all set to start the day. I can work my 8 hours a day sitting on my computer chair.  After my day is done I switch over to doing my homework for 4 hours a day.  If I did not make the personal decision to take myself out of the everyday drag of going to and from work in the everyday rat race; I would most likely not be in college right now.

We all know a few of the main reasons many of us haven’t furthered our education and one of them is time.  How can anyone find the time to do anything these days? We have to get up in the morning, get the kids going to either daycare or school, get ready for work ourselves, then battle traffic just to get to a job that we may feel underappreciated at.  The motivation to stay at the one place that makes us miserable is bills, family monetary support and telling yourself, “I have to work to survive.” With that constant daily thought, we end up tuning ourselves out from the possibilities for the future.

I have personally talked to groups of people in all age ranges.  When we talked about who we were and what we did for a living, nearly 90% of them were shocked to hear I work at home.  With the many awkward faces I gathered over time, I am now an expert at how to handle explaining what it is I do at home and how they can achieve the freedom I have. It’s a simple task that requires dedication and effort on your part to gain a goal you have in mind.  Would you like to spend more time with your kids? Have a chance to take a vacation without losing valuable projects and pay? Further yourself in your career, education and as a human being? Most likely you will answer yes, then wouldn’t the motivation come from the fact you work hard, do your research and time to get to that place just like in a traditional office setting. I have explained I needed to do the same. It is a long road to get where you want to be at anything in life; but if it is the outcome you want, you have to get there somehow.

I did it, my co-workers did it and a few in my family have done it. It’s amazing the help Jobs Based From Home gives to that advantage to people who need change in their lives. Working at home truly is a huge difference to one’s life, and a better one at that. You get to raise your confidence and originality in your work while making a difference in your family’s life. PostHeaderIcon Keeping yourself with a positive mindset in hard times

It’s getting rough out there. Times are changing, they feel as if they’re getting worse and even yet most people have a negative outlook for the near future.  This can leave a devastating effect on your mental, emotional, as well your physical self, not to mention stress from family relationships and marriages.   I believe the majority of these things can be prevented, even reversed.

For example, you lose your job.  This is quite common right now, with the way the economy stands so far, many people are finding they have to suddenly change their way of life. While the loss of the career may not be prevented, the change of your lifestyle can be managed to a point were cutting back won’t be so hard to do.  You can sit down on a day off or weekend (if you don’t work then) and write out everything you do in a month’s time.  Sometimes we don’t list everything we do because they do not reoccur every month, so make sure to list everything that takes your time, effort and pocketbook.  Take this time to make a mental note to yourself, this won’t last forever!  Make sure extra things like buying sweets at the store, getting that magazine you always read, buying anything extra you can live without; gets put on the back burner for the time being.  You may be surprised in the money you can save by doing this.

Many people work their jobs without thinking outside the preverbal “box.” What I’m talking about is taking extra freelancing jobs outside their normal 9-5.  There are newer, faster ways to make money online by utilizing your talents in your free time.  Love to write? Try blogging for cash.  Do you like to paint, draw or use your artistic talent to make fun items?  Why not sell them at a trade show, or better yet get your items mentioned to a gallery to find a sponsor willing to help display your talent for all to see (and better yet purchase!).  So get your resume together or a portfolio in case you want to make a little extra money and keep a positive outlook about what you have, instead of what you may not have.

Most people don’t know that there is a sea of work on the internet just waiting for people to grab.  In my opinion most don’t think about the internet at all when it comes to work.  This is the reason I believe there is a cry for people needed with, even the slightest bit of talent, to come online and work.  The more the internet grows, the more jobs there are and the more money is to be made.  So why is there is a shortage of workers online?  They haven’t been exposed to the possibilities that await them all over the net.  It could be because more people who don’t spend their time on the internet won’t know of the plethora of programs that can make them money.  So word of mouth can be important here.

Remember that you are not the only one going through a rough time.  Even the employed are sitting on egg shells everyday worrying about their jobs.  These feelings and emotions that we are all going through in this time can be tough to battle, but if we can each turn them around to something positive, it may be easier to make it through.  Thinking positive about, even little things, can get us to a great state of mind in which it may be easier to grab more employment.

You can ask for help or let us help you.  We here at Jobs Based From Home have the eBook that says it all and the database to back it up.  Are you ready to face the new workforce market of working from home, or could you use us to help you get there faster, smarter and easier?  If so, click the link and open the door to new possibilites…       http://jobsbasedfromhome.net/

PostHeaderIcon Warning road block ahead; How to identify and break down that wall

This is something we all go through in our professional and personal life, sometimes on a weekly basis.  Road blocks are a part of life, whether we like it or not they are either something we can move past and get over, or they are something that can stop us dead in our tracks.  This reminds me of the most successful people in business today, such as Donald Trump and Martha Stewart.  They have had road blocks stand in their way but refused to let them hold their dreams back.  But how does each of us deal with our own pitfalls?  Here are a few things to consider before you decide to give up trying.

Business skills or lack thereof.  Some jobs in today’s market call for special skills or certain degrees from a college.  Don’t let this stop you or be a reason you don’t apply for a job.  There have been instances in where even if you don’t have the corresponding degree the prospective company is looking for, does not mean you cannot do the job described.

In fact even I have achieved this, granting a great experience in customer service taking orders over the phone for a pet company.  Only one person out of a training class would make it through to actually working there, starting out with 20 people fighting for the same job. I don’t think I need to tell you who got it, and I didn’t have a degree to my name.  Don’t let this be a big pitfall for you.  If it would make you feel better you could also search for night classes that may give you an extra leg up.

Time changes and schedule changes.  Depending on what job you do get, you may have to change around your schedule including your bedtime hour.  I personally am a night owl, but I have to wake up each morning at 6 am just to get a head start on checking emails and important updates before my shift begins.  You may even have to stay up later at night to get some work done.  Either way prepare for an adjusting period in which you may feel more tired than normal.

Depending on whether you have decided to start your own home business or be a freelancer (renting you time out to others), you will be responsible for making your own decisions.  Sometimes this means you may have to make ones about what time to work, emergency situations and project deadlines.  Something else that goes along with this is the pitfall of not having someone you can just turn and bounce ideas off of.  Everyone is an instant message or phone call away.  That may not sound as bad as it seems, but it can be if no one is answering on the other end.  Remember, what you come up with can directly affect, in a positive or negative way, your business and schedule.  Be prepared.

It’s always good to find goals that will give you the motivation to push on past these barriers.  Don’t be disappointed when you aren’t successful right off the bat.  Success does not happen overnight.  It will take some time to build up your business or freelancing portfolio.  This is the drive that has real people succeeding in professional areas of their life every day.  How long will it take you to reach that goal you set for yourself?

You can ask for help or let us help you.  We here at Jobs Based From Home have the eBook that says it all and the database to back it up.  Are you ready to face the new workforce market of working from home, or could you use us to help you get there faster, smarter and easier?  If so, click the link and open the door to new possibilites…       http://jobsbasedfromhome.net/

PostHeaderIcon Work at home with the addition of a family schedule

Believe it or not even in the downturn of the economy, there are more jobs being offered online.  So what can you do to increase the productivity of your work without getting distracted by family life?

Everyone can agree that family life at home can be a roller derby trying to balance children with business and even the family pets.  The way to gain control of this is to schedule out your day down to the last minute.  If you’re shaking your head and saying “I’ve tried that already!” maybe some pointers can help you stay on track.

It is a well known fact in this country that the average adult only gets about 6 hours of restful sleep.  Many adults in the workforce can relate to this, but this is one major downfall of productivity.  It is possible to get more than 6 hours of sleep on a weekday you just have to make a diligent schedule and be disciplined to stick to it.  If you can do this, you can guarantee more attention will be put into the quality of work you put out.

Quality is a key factor in proving you are meant to be a work at home professional. So is a proper eating habit.  It is however understandable that the rush of a morning is the standard in most households, but by working at home more attention can also be put on what we eat.  They say to never skip breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day and it’s true.  It could be the one that keeps you alert and moving throughout the day.

Now I know most people make be still saying that these above tips will not work for them.  The idea behind these tips is that scheduling, time management and discipline are huge factors.  If you can get a day/week/monthly planner, sit down in your free time and make out a schedule, you can control the outcome of your personal and professional life.   I have even had to schedule my free time, as I go to college during the week and work fulltime, so far having a planner and sticking to it has greatly helped me in my success professionally.

If you can take these key factors and in some way apply them to your life, you may become more successful with every day that passes by.  Family can be a bit distracting when at home, but in the end having the flexibility to see then with just a turn of your office chair or walk down the hallway is a great motivational tool that can give you the drive needed to stay successful.  Good luck to all of you in your professional lives and I can only hope my tips will help you with your work at home needs.  If you want to know more about working at home and how to start, including more tips like these, please visit our main site at http://jobsbasedfromhome.net and get your eBook that will help you gain your new successful future!

PostHeaderIcon Dad’s working at home becoming the new trend

Most people today would think that moms are still the stay-at-home warriors of the house. But what most people don’t know is that the number of dads opting to stay at home is on the rise. According to the U.S. Census Bureau there are about 64.3 million fathers in the US alone and of those 159,000 are stay at home dads, this being the estimate on Father’s day 2007.

With the moms being the new bread winners, more dads are finding themselves at home taking over the role for mom: bottle feedings, diaper changes, potty training and making dinner.  But what happens when the financial need is greater than spending all day with the kids? Well your answer would be; work from home.  Even as the economy is in a sloping down turn, more and more fathers are finding themselves at home working.

There are huge benefits to being a stay at home dad, one is you get to watch the little ones grow up.  This is something most parents miss because of the jobs they hold outside of the house. What I think is the driving point, is that most dads in the current parenting generation understand; is that spending more time with family may mean a sacrifice on their part. It has actually been suggested that if the father of the family stays home instead of mom, he will get more time, as a whole, with his family.

Traditional roles in family life are being changed because of the wide range of employment opportunities due to the plethora of technology we have.  I can say from my experience, my father had missed much of my brother, sister and I growing up.  He had many jobs that required him to leave the state for days at a time.  The things my father missed because of this, he feels, were taxing on his relationship to the family.  You may ask; how can I work at home when I have to support the family?  Are there jobs in which I can be at home and still make enough for family expenses?

The answer of course is yes.  Even with this current rollercoaster economy, the push to have more employees stay at home is great.  Employers believe if they send their jobs over the internet, they can cut costs while saving the job market.  The key point is here is that there are jobs waiting for people, good solid work at home jobs that are being posted every day.  So dads, if you choose to make the move to staying at home with the kids, which can be very rewarding in itself, you can still make money by working at home.

In fact the best way to start working from home is to go to our website and check out our eBook.  It’s a busy world and not everyone has time to do the necessary research, so we did it for you and provided a database that has over 3,000 job resources for you to start applying to right away.

PostHeaderIcon How to tell if a work at home job is legitimate

There are a fair few work at home jobs on the internet today so how do you tell who is giving you the real deal and who is trying to scam you ? Right here I have compiled a list of tips on how to stop what job may be trying to take you for a not-so-good ride .

First: always do your research on a company you want to apply to .  There are some people out there who create names to companies already in service for the sole purpose of scamming people .  If you want to know about the company you may be applying to, do some research on a few search engines.  This should be actual research more than just reading one or two different websites about the company in question.

There are a few sites you can check such as ripoffreport.com but be aware! These sites allow anyone to complain about being ripped off.  Many big name companies are presented on this site for one person having a bad experience. Unless the company you’re searching for has been shown to be a proven scam on more than one website, don’t just go by one person’s bad experience. Also don’t hesitate to have the Better Business Bureau on your favorites menu, searching through them will give you an idea of a company’s reputation. Just remember to make your own decision, if anyone can rate something a good or bad experience, the probability that they are doing it out of spite still exists.

Look out for offers to work at home making huge sums of money in little time.  Generally these send up red flags to anyone who is a seasoned internet surfer, but for some people who have little experience in looking for work at home opportunities you may not know what to look for.  It is safe to say the only thing in life that can guarantee this kind of money in little time is the lottery. Personally I have yet to see if anyone but the scammer has made $1000 dollars a day by doing little to no work. Most of the time, after paying out your own money, you find out too late that it’s a scam and you’ve lost your investment.

Make sure that if you are buying something, like our eBook, there is a guarantee attached to it (we have one). This is a set in place policy that insures if you’re not satisfied you gain a refund.  Every legitimate company has a policy that insures their customers best interest, scammers try to make the investment they are telling you about sound good, but in the end they don’t deliver what they promised to sell you. Here is a small tip: If you see a company often telling you something too good to be true, it often is. If you’re that interested, find an email address of the company in question and send it, chances are if it’s a scam you won’t receive an email back.

A little research goes a long way. Find information on the type of work at home job you want. There is always a specific “niche” that may be more popular than another. When you’re looking for that good start off point in your at home business career, make it a point to see if the path you picked will yield a good selection of job offers.  There may also be some legal issues at hand.

One example for this is anything related to the Medical field.  Processing data for medical purposes may require certificates for HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and handling any other medical files that do not belong to you. I have had experience in the medical field myself and I can tell you the security precautions for keeping medical records safe is very high, be prepared to apply for special licenses and certificates.

As long as you remember to research the company you’re interested in, check out the type of licenses you may need (if any) and never pay upfront for a job application, you should be well on your way to working from home. Even though everyday it gets easier to learn about how to work from home, your learning will never end.  There is always something new with Jobs Based From Home, so come on over and take a look.

PostHeaderIcon Work at home Moms, Dads and Guardians

Even though a lot of us work at home professionals don’t have the daily stress of driving to and from work, there is still quite a bit of pressure or even more so.  Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them too, like getting swamped with projects that all have the same deadlines, or hitting an unexpected road block with your management.

It’s important to make sure and start the day on the right foot, or at least get there before you start work, let me tell you it can change the outcome of your whole day, maybe even outlook on life.  While I have personally heard from a lot of business people and work at home professionals that it can get depressing to work with out interaction of a normal job, you still have environmental factors to contend with. One most dealt with is, young children at home!

Sound familiar?  Well I compiled a small list of tips that could probably help you out. Take them or leave them, either way they could come in handy.

Get a babysitter for cheap. It could be a Mother in law or your own mom who loves to be around them and won’t mind watching them while your working. You could also find one through friends too.  One hot tip is make sure if you choose someone that they are certified child care workers. This will come in handy if little Susie scrapes her knee and needs something for it, that way you won’t have an inexperienced teenager interrupting you during a meeting about how to fix the situation. It will also leave your mind at ease if you need to leave the house for something business related.

If your new found job and/or business allows it, schedule yourself for breaks during your shift. Plenty of people work 2 or 3 hours then take an hour break to get their children fed, have them set up for the next few hours of work. What goes best with this is if you have older kids who are at school, they can help when they get home.  Since this can be a tough situation maybe you can even work out certain gestures that your kids can recognize if your on the phone.   When I was younger, this was standard in our house because of bosses calling.  These ideas have helped with moms I know, some have small infants they end up getting a mommy/daddy helper for.

Keep your children on a set schedule. This can be a pain when you first start out, ask my nephew. When he was born, it only took 3 weeks for me to get used to doing everything on time, right down to the last minute.   At that time I was still home from being injured but I took care of him every day for 12 or more hours at a time, sometimes over night (no need to elaborate on why, that’s a whole other story!).   We still have him on a schedule, even though he’s not with us as often anymore, but it helps when he comes over before im done with work he knows he can’t be loud or interrupt me.  He’s really good at it, considering there are also people in the house hold who work odd hours he likes to walk around telling me people are taking naps.

All in all, I think the key here is to not leave your children out of the situation.   Even though I don’t work on the phone, sometimes my nephew needs a hug or to just know I am there for him so he sits on my lap. These things are ok sometimes, specially when they understand that mommy or daddy or even auntie is working hard.

So keep these things in mind and remember you have already made a great life changing move to working at home, it will change your future and your children’s future for the better.

PostHeaderIcon The drive that moves you to achieve more

One word, motivation. What gives it to you, what is your purpose to do something, anything at all? It takes motivation to do normal things in life like shopping and going that extra mile to help someone out. If you added a little drive and determination to this equation, you have an untold amount of motivation that no one could stop. But how do you achieve that unbreakable motivation?

Lets start with what can stop motivation in its tracks, the dreaded procrastination. I’m sure we’ve all been there, and some of us are there right now about many things. Sometimes it could be that we don’t want to do something or are putting it off because it’s not number one on our list of importance. This also has a lot to do with what your personal priorities are and what you are looking for as the end result.

Some people say it takes a certain type of person to have the drive quality to get somewhere in life. I say it takes a lot more than that, such as the learning skills to move yourself up to were you want to be. Most people who have achieved their career dreams did not get their on their own either. When they first started out its because someone else gave them a chance to get there, through accepting their application or just by taking a chance on them during the interview process.

Just about anything can give you that drive to start from day one and get to the top. I know I have talked to a lot of stay at home moms and dads, their first trigger to get them started is their number one priority: their children. Nothing says drive like that and it is that ability to provide for your family that ensues the feeling of a job well done. So make sure when you plan to take that first step on working from home, you get sound advice on how it works and you write down your motivation, frame it and keep it with in sight.
